During the month of April, Annie and I are taking the single digit challenge. That is, we are trying to get our electric bill down below $10 for the month. Normally, we operate around $15-18, so it might not be thaaaaaat hard. We're not doing it for any environmental or economical reason, we're just seeing if we can do it.

These things snuck up on me! Don't they usually do them later in the year, say, first week of February? Oh well.
No big surprises, but a few small disappointments for me:
- I really thought that Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead would get nominated for his There Will Be Blood score. I've heard several people mention it as another character in the flick.
- Which war documentary will they choose? They have four they could grab.
- Thrilled to see Julian Schnabel get the nod for Diving Bell, but Jason Reitman for Juno? It was a good movie, Oscar worthy on a couple of fronts, but probably not for Direction.
- Norbit crashes the ceremony like a drunken frat-boy, even if it is for Makeup.

When I think of complete and total commitment to a performance, I think of Daniel Day-Lewis (Last of the Mohicans, My Left Foot, Gangs of New York, etc.). His calculated immersion into every role is astounding to me. This seems to be the case for his latest movie, There Will Be Blood.
And you have to be thrilled about P.T. Anderson (Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love) at the helm.

Annie liked our wedding a lot...but I still think the happiest day of her life came when we got this guy:

We've named him Ollivander for the time being. But that might change. We'll just have to see what sticks. Right now he's much more playful than cuddly, but that's exactly how I'd expect (and want) a 4-month old kitten to be. Additionally, he chirps and squeaks like the robots on Batteries Not Included. Annie can't think straight for being so thrilled with this little guy.

I talked to someone from the Bloomington Fire Dept. yesterday. He had to do a rope rescue a week or two ago for someone who broke his back jumping off rooftop at the quarries. As a result, the police are finally cracking down, giving out $150 fines for swimming there. Ben Mertz went yesterday and got kicked out before he even made it back there.
I guess it sucks worst for incoming freshmen. All good things must come to an end, but I wouldn't be surprised if the cops eventually get lazy about it.
